In search of a pda publishers' manual

One of my authors is a professor at a major medical school, and he is busily preparing the third edition of his urology guide and has a prospective purchaser of several thousand copies. I've coached him through the process, and he is passing me in some areas. But not this one...

He wants to make this book available (for a fee) online so that medical students, residents, and physicians can access it any time on their pdas.

I cannot find anything that gives instructions for how to do this. Lots of places offer to do it for you, even more bring out a very long list of e-books you can buy from them, and several want you to buy their favorite e-book reader, pda, or whatever.

It must be really, really simple, but even it if is, I need to know what to do...

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Like I told my cousin Marv, my entire economic future depends on my ability to conquer the barriers between Griffith Publishing and e-book publishing for the pda. Well, not quite. But I'd sure like to get a leg up and get going on this phase of publishing.
